    Been a long time

So it's been a long time since I've updated this blog, and a lot has happened in my writing world. Granted I'm still not published, but that's alright. I'm almost done with Something's Missing, I just have to type up the last few chapters and then Brandon is going to finish editing it. There are a few concepts that I want to keep, but I'm not too sure of, and there are others the might have to go away. Either way there's at least one more rewrite that needs to be done before I send off queries for it. At first I wasn't alright with this, but then I realized that it needed to be done. Better done properly and get published, than done in a rush and not be published. Right? So that's where I'm at novel wise.

Then there is the short short story that I wrote, many of you know of it as the Fairy Story, it has gone out under a different title. I have submitted it three times, and have gotten three rejections, but one of them had feed back. I see that alone as progress. I have plans to work the original short short into an actual short story (We're looking at adding about 2,000 or so words to it).

There is just something so refreshing about going back to school that helps with ideas. Even though I'm exhausted from working nearly full time, and going to school full time, I find myself thinking of different ideas. I have great ideas that are slowly coming into shape and are hiding away in composition notebooks. They are far from seeing the light of the computer, but it is nice to get them down. It is when I am working on these secret projects, that I realize I will never be able to stop writing.

  • Some Times you just have to give up

I hate to give up on things, but I am learning very slowly that I am not super woman. Nanowriomo is just not possible to finish this year. I hate the story and I wish I would have stuck with my original idea. Nope. I had to stick with the fact that Sara and I agreed to do a challenge story. Even though she didn't stick to it, I had to stick to it because my mind wouldn't allow me to do otherwise. The characters didn't talk to me, the story line sucked and now it's about 26,000 words of shit. Yep. Shit. I even think it rivals Dark Moon (for those of you who don't know, that's the first novel I wrote) Which had a very shitty plot line, but it still had a plot line. Which is more then I can say for this. Though I find myself already thinking about next Nanowrimo, and depending on where I am in my writing. I think I want to do something silly and just through all my characters into a room, sit back and see what happens. So as for now, I'm going back to my outline for my Egyptian story, and going to be working on that from now until it's ready to send out.

I had a dream about my Egyptian story and it makes me think that this is the one. Yes, I know I've said that before, but I really do think this is the one. It's original, and it's not vampires (Like everything seems to be, espeically with the release of the Twilight movie). It should be fun and spunky. I'm trying to get the feeling of it to be mixed with serious, and tense with the relief of humor in it. So far I think it's going to work the way I want it to.

I sent out "Charon" again, originally titled Fairy Story, and I have yet to hear back. Thought the first Flash Fiction place rejected it, she gave me a bit of feed back that helped. I think that once I exhust the Flash Fiction resources that I have I may turn it into a full fledge short story instead, so that it isn't has much as retelling a myth. We'll see though. That's just one project on my 2009 list.

Yes that means I'm already making plans for next year in the ways of my writing. My goal for 2009 is to have an agent by the end of the year. I think that would be awsome. So judging by the other two, or is it three now, novels that I have writtened and queried for. I have about six months to write the book and then to start querying for them. In the time that I wait for those queries to come back, I will be editing my butt off with Brandon and a few others to make it the best novel that I can. Wish me luck! On top of that, I am working on a strict writing schedual for next year, one that will allow me to achieve what I want this year.

    Where to Start?

Where to start, where to start....well I attended two new writer's groups here in Colorado Springs. Both of them were very helpful, the second one that I had attended on Tuesday gave me more confidence and courage then I have had in a long time. In fact the first thing I did that day when I got home was took out an old flash fiction piece that I had written and sent it in for submission. Well it was rejected today, however it was a good rejection, (and yes that is possible) the lady gave me a small critique on it, and gave me some ideas on where to go. She suggested to try  a different market first, because it was a good piece and if that didn't work she suggested that I rework it. So I've decided that I'm going to go down the list of people to send it to, and if I get rejected by them all then I'm going to rework it into a full sized short story and give it a try that way. We'll see what happens with that.

In other news, its the end of week one for Nanowrimo and I am at a beautiful 17,000 words. Not quite where I wanted to be, but I'm a head of the game. I have daily goals that I want to meet, considering that I take two days off a week for school. Those days I do nothing but school work. Study, test, homework, papers, so I have to make up those 1,667 daily words. Tomorrow my goal for the day is 5,000 more words, which is the goal I met today. I'm close to my original goal which was to be at 20,000 at the end of Sunday. I would like to be somewhere around 22,000 now if I can be since I have the entire day off. I'm actually liking the story I'm working on this year. I've already decided that during December and January I'm going to edit it while also working on my Egyptian store, which I would like to have ready to send out by the end of March. My goal this year is to have an agent by the end of the year. Though that's a subject for another blog. I'm going to bed now. I need some sleep before I decide to try and write 5,000 words. Night!

  • A month....

A month can mean a lot of things, to me right now it means, it's just under a month until November. Which means NANOWRIMO! My outline is almost done! I just need to flesh it out a little bit. I've been keeping an eye on the forums and learning that here in Colorado Springs, I may not be as alone as I thought in this whole writing thing. Though no body at work really shares my passion, there will be others. In Grand Junction I met others like me by wearing my hand painted NANOWRIMO shirt. It worked, I still keep in touch with one friend I made from that. There's nothing like meeting other writers and having coffee over the sound of laptop keys.

On other writing news, Forgotten is in chapter six, that's with the beta right now, and there's a couple new stories in the brew. I don't want to get too excited because when Nov. 1st hits all will be on hold. If anyone who reads this is doing Nanowrimo...leave a message, I'd love to see who else is doing it.

About Me

  • I'm an aspiring author. I currently just moved back to Colorado Springs from Grand Junction. I spend almost three hours a night writing, working mostly on my original fiction. My goal is to get published before 2010, and eventually open up a small used book store with a coffee shop. When I'm not writing I can be found studying hard for school, and learning to play snare drum for a local Pipe and Drum band. I'm set to get married in July '09, and Brandon is the love of my life. We have a cat together whose name is Jynx. I sing, I dance, and if you stare long enough I might do a trick! Watch the bookshelf because I'll be there soon. Drop a note, I love to talk!
