  • Free time, and Nanowrimo

So I have been finding myself with a lot of free time and most of this time is used to prepare for the biggest event of the year for me. NANOWRIMO (NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth www.nanowrimo.org) is only 26 days away. For those of you who do not know what this is, it is a goal for authors to write 50,000 words in the month of November. Why they chose the month that starts the busiest holiday season is beyond me, but I'm not going to complain. Last year I only managed to do 26,000 words, but this year is a new year. I am actually using the first of my Hunter novels as my Nano, I figured that since I am really inspired for this book then I will be inspired to continue through the month.

As it is, I have been spending a lot of quality time with my characters and my outline for this event. I've been working hard enough that I can close my eyes and see my characters sitting there ready to talk to me, to tell me their stories. (This is the part that I start to sound crazy again) I've been working so closely with these characters that they are running around in my head, ready to come out. They are excited to get on with their story. Some of them are wanting to prove me wrong, others think that I have everything figured out.

I have adapted a few things this year that I want to try during Nano. I will have a folder with all my characters' information in it, so that I can have a quick reference to them, and I will have my outline, in both a hard copy and a electronic copy. I will also still have the ever famous sticky notes with me, with different color markers. I can't edit during Nano, but as soon as I finish the novel (Because it will be more that 50,000 words) then I will have to start the edits and the rewrites.  So the proposed schedule looks like this:

    November 30th: 50,000 word goal
January 1st, 2010: First draft finished
March 1st, 2010: Final Draft finished
April 1sth, 2010: First Query letter

Pretty scary schedule, but I am determined. I'm tired of being left in the dust as the people around me accomplish their dreams. No longer will I deal with that. It changes, starting November 1st.

P.S. Bring me Vault during November, and you will be my best friend. :)

  • Inspiration

I haven't let you guys in the loop as of late with my writing. Sorry about that, but I had lost a lot of my inspiration. Though now I have a lot of free time at night, and most of that time has been dedicated to writing. I'm gearing up for NANOWRIMO here in the next couple months, and before that I plan on starting Book one of my Vampire Hunter series. Yes, I'm aware that vampires are truly over done right, but this isn't like the teeny books that Twilight has spawned, nor are they love stories. It's back to the basics with humans hunting vampires, just with my spin on it. I have a really dominate character who plans on taking a big part in the series, despite what I have planned.

I'm doing this the right way (at least for me) outline, and character profiles all the way through. This will hopefully help with my consistency and keep it from falling into a giant mess! For Nanowrimo I'm debating between three things, trying my hand at romance (YIKES!), starting another book in my series, or doing the complete rewrite of Something's Missing.

So there's my update, not much to report. Though When something exciting happens in my writing world, I'm sure you'll be the first to know.

  • Tonight is the night

Tonight is the night that I get serious about writing. (Again, I know.) I read an interview today that really sparked me into get going. I have plenty of projects going on, now I just need to finish them. After finishing them, they need to be polished. Once polished, I will submit them for publishing. A process that is bound to take a while, but I am determined to have something either published, or have an agent by the end of the year. This weeks assignments for me are: Edit and rewrite Chapter One, of Book One (Yay for no titles yet!), continue editing Something Missing, (though I will admit I've kind of given up hope for that one. I may end up rewriting the whole thing.)  Though this is a busy week, and time of year for me, things must be done. :) wish me luck!

    Been a long time

So it's been a long time since I've updated this blog, and a lot has happened in my writing world. Granted I'm still not published, but that's alright. I'm almost done with Something's Missing, I just have to type up the last few chapters and then Brandon is going to finish editing it. There are a few concepts that I want to keep, but I'm not too sure of, and there are others the might have to go away. Either way there's at least one more rewrite that needs to be done before I send off queries for it. At first I wasn't alright with this, but then I realized that it needed to be done. Better done properly and get published, than done in a rush and not be published. Right? So that's where I'm at novel wise.

Then there is the short short story that I wrote, many of you know of it as the Fairy Story, it has gone out under a different title. I have submitted it three times, and have gotten three rejections, but one of them had feed back. I see that alone as progress. I have plans to work the original short short into an actual short story (We're looking at adding about 2,000 or so words to it).

There is just something so refreshing about going back to school that helps with ideas. Even though I'm exhausted from working nearly full time, and going to school full time, I find myself thinking of different ideas. I have great ideas that are slowly coming into shape and are hiding away in composition notebooks. They are far from seeing the light of the computer, but it is nice to get them down. It is when I am working on these secret projects, that I realize I will never be able to stop writing.

  • Some Times you just have to give up

I hate to give up on things, but I am learning very slowly that I am not super woman. Nanowriomo is just not possible to finish this year. I hate the story and I wish I would have stuck with my original idea. Nope. I had to stick with the fact that Sara and I agreed to do a challenge story. Even though she didn't stick to it, I had to stick to it because my mind wouldn't allow me to do otherwise. The characters didn't talk to me, the story line sucked and now it's about 26,000 words of shit. Yep. Shit. I even think it rivals Dark Moon (for those of you who don't know, that's the first novel I wrote) Which had a very shitty plot line, but it still had a plot line. Which is more then I can say for this. Though I find myself already thinking about next Nanowrimo, and depending on where I am in my writing. I think I want to do something silly and just through all my characters into a room, sit back and see what happens. So as for now, I'm going back to my outline for my Egyptian story, and going to be working on that from now until it's ready to send out.

I had a dream about my Egyptian story and it makes me think that this is the one. Yes, I know I've said that before, but I really do think this is the one. It's original, and it's not vampires (Like everything seems to be, espeically with the release of the Twilight movie). It should be fun and spunky. I'm trying to get the feeling of it to be mixed with serious, and tense with the relief of humor in it. So far I think it's going to work the way I want it to.

I sent out "Charon" again, originally titled Fairy Story, and I have yet to hear back. Thought the first Flash Fiction place rejected it, she gave me a bit of feed back that helped. I think that once I exhust the Flash Fiction resources that I have I may turn it into a full fledge short story instead, so that it isn't has much as retelling a myth. We'll see though. That's just one project on my 2009 list.

Yes that means I'm already making plans for next year in the ways of my writing. My goal for 2009 is to have an agent by the end of the year. I think that would be awsome. So judging by the other two, or is it three now, novels that I have writtened and queried for. I have about six months to write the book and then to start querying for them. In the time that I wait for those queries to come back, I will be editing my butt off with Brandon and a few others to make it the best novel that I can. Wish me luck! On top of that, I am working on a strict writing schedual for next year, one that will allow me to achieve what I want this year.

About Me

  • I'm an aspiring author. I currently just moved back to Colorado Springs from Grand Junction. I spend almost three hours a night writing, working mostly on my original fiction. My goal is to get published before 2010, and eventually open up a small used book store with a coffee shop. When I'm not writing I can be found studying hard for school, and learning to play snare drum for a local Pipe and Drum band. I'm set to get married in July '09, and Brandon is the love of my life. We have a cat together whose name is Jynx. I sing, I dance, and if you stare long enough I might do a trick! Watch the bookshelf because I'll be there soon. Drop a note, I love to talk!
